We have now lived in this rental home for nearly eight months. It’s so hard to believe how the time has flown, and it’s even harder to believe how much we have “settled” in here… Of course, by settling in, I mean – unpacked, un-organized, un-managed. In all our time here, I have managed to clean up and declutter all our bedrooms, and even the spare hallway closets. One place, however, has become a “catch-all” and has been severely neglected – our laundry room. I think because it is not in the main traffic area of the house and it is easily hidden behind two bi-fold doors, it is so easy to just ignore the mess and continue on with life. That is, it’s easy to ignore until I have to open the doors, find my appliances beneath the clutter, and attempt to do our laundry each week.
This is what the “pit” looked like before my husband and I started to tackle the mess…
We sorted the laundry detergents and other cleaners. We sorted the pool cleaners, chemicals, and tools. We sorted the pet needs and supplies into their own little basket. And we placed all the light bulbs and other home repair needs in their own basket as well. We also threw out a trash bag full of unnecessary junk, which freed up a tremendous amount of space too!
And here is the final product…
It’s actually a laundry room again! Ahhh…. Imagine that – a clean place to clean our laundry! Just divine!

It’s fun and perky! A much needed makeover!
Wow, what a difference! Almost makes me brave enough to tackle my own messy laundry room. You did a great job! Can I tell you one of my favorite laundry room things? A Mason jar! I throw all the change I find in the bottom of the washer in there, then cash it in for gift cards (at the Coinstar machine) for Amazon or Borders. I’ve gotten myself a few nice little things with nothing but pocket change.
Oh my goodness, I thought someone snuck in and took a picture of my laundry room! Mine is on my master list for next week, but I might try to tackle it a bit earlier after your inspiration.
