Couponing, ECB’s, and More

I pride myself on being a super frugal shopper! In fact, I cannot remember the last time I actually paid full price for anything that wasn’t an absolute emergency for our family.  And I always have coupons! In a moment of weakness and hurry, though, this past week, I made a mad dash to Wal-Mart for a pretty good sized list of things we needed, and had no coupons.  I had to hurry and get the shopping done and get back before Hubs went to work, and I had not planned on shopping that day, so it was just a mess from the get-go.  Let me just say that Wal-Mart is not one of my favorite stores anyway, but it is the closest to us here and I knew I could get everything I needed in one place!  Well… an hour later, I loaded multiple bags of groceries and supplies into the back of my van and just shook my head in disbelief at the amount of money I had just spent! No coupons + no time + no deals = WAY too much money! I think I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 times our normal bi-weekly shopping budget! Ouch! #FAIL

As if that failure wasn’t enough, while clipping and sorting coupons a couple days ago, I realized that I had let $7 in Extra Care Bucks from CVS expire! That may not sound like much to most people, but to avid couponers, that’s at least two good transactions! :( #FAIL

*Whew!* We won’t even talk about how much time I have spent on the couch and in my pj’s this week due to lack of sleep… #FAIL

Please tell me you haven’t thrown away your ECB’s! I had heard this rumor and recently found it to be true–CVS takes expired ECBs!! They take any expired CVS coupons or ECBs. Dig them out of your trash if they’re still near the top!

@Amanda, I have heard that myself, Amanda, but haven’t tried it at our CVS here. Thanks for the info! I will give it a try! :)

You’re my hero, even with the fail. I’ve tried to be a couponer, but I’m just not organized enough to be good at it.

I know the feeling of going shopping without time to plan :( Definitely not fun for the checking acct!! I hope you’re able to get some sleep soon! Are you not being able to sleep or are you up with the kids? Praying for you!

@Kelly, Thanks, Kelly! And yes, it is HARD on the checking account! Lol I’m not sleeping well myself, AND all 3 of my kiddos have had a hard time resting well over the past week… Not sure what that’s all about but hoping it will pass soon!!
