Love to cook, but can’t seem to find the time to do much of it? Well, same here for sure! I collect all these wonderful cookbooks and recipes, and plan all these gourmet meals in my head, just very rarely have the chance to actually create them! Several months ago, I stumbled onto the Freezer Cooking Days with a couple of incredible bloggers. I have participated in the Freezer Cooking Days and menu planning a few times now, and I love it! I cannot always guarantee that our busy schedules will allow for me to spend an hour in the kitchen every day! This way, I can commit one or two days a month to cooking, and then I can simply run to the freezer and grab something out for dinner each day. It is brilliant!
Both Crystal and Jessica have many posts explaining how to get started with freezer cooking. They both also share some pretty yummy recipes and a link-up to let everyone share their recipes and results. Over the past couple months, I have been experimenting with several new recipes for our family – some have worked well, and others have not. It’s definitely a trial-and-error process. I haven’t posted my results for April yet, but I feel as though this month was definitely a success! We have at least three weeks of food in our freezer, plus food for the rest of this week in the fridge waiting to be warmed up and/or used! It’s such a blessing and definitely helps with my struggle for balance right now!
One definite perk to Freezer Cooking is that I am able to create healthy meals for my family, even if I am short on time. Rather than stopping at McDonald’s or grabbing a pizza on the way home from errands, I can set something out to thaw prior to my errands for the day. It has most certainly improved our rushed family’s eating habits, as well as help us cut some of our monthly expenses since we are not eating out (or taking out) nearly as much now! And thanks to so many of the recipes shared recently, I am now learning how to make even more things from scratch and saving even more money on our groceries – things I can make in bulk, like homemade crockpot applesauce, homemade yogurt, and homemade condensed cream of chicken soup. These are all things we use on a very regular basis around here, so I am thrilled to now have a stash of them in my freezer and/or refrigerator! If you haven’t tried Freezer Cooking yet, you definitely should give it a whirl! It’s totally worth it and I love it!
